Spring is just around the corner and with it comes turkey hunting season. Shuhart Creek Whitetails is known for our great deer hunts, but you might not know that we offer turkey hunts too! Northern Zone turkey season is April 13 – May 14, 2015, and we are taking reservations now for hunts. We’d like to help you use at least one of your three turkey permits this season.

Our guides will put you in the best areas where you have the best chance of calling in a bird. So, start brushing up on your best turkey calls and get ready to see a bunch of toms with long beards. Last season birds shot at Shuhart Creek weighed up to 27 lbs with a 11-1/4” long beard and 1-7/8” spurs.

In addition to hunts for seasoned hunters, Illinois offers a Youth Turkey Season on April 4 and 5, 2015. This hunt offers youth hunters under age 16 the opportunity to gain experience turkey hunting while other hunters are not authorized to hunt. What better way to start a hunting career than with a turkey hunt? Youth hunters can use a bow and arrow or a shotgun. Hunters must be accompanied by a parent/guardian or grandparent with a valid Firearm Owners Identification Card (FOID). Hunters need to have an apprentice or youth hunting license, or a State Approved Hunter Education course with a hunting license, and a Habitat Stamp. The State of Illinois offers a First Turkey certificate for youth– what a great way to commemorate a first bird!

Whether you come for a week or a weekend, you are sure to love the accommodations at Shuhart Creek and our professional staff. Turkey hunts at Shuhart Creek are booked on a first come, first served basis. Make sure that you have applied for your turkey permit at dnr.illinois.gov.
